Two beautiful twenty-three-year-old women, identified by German media only as “Sharaban K.” and “Khadidja O.” looked so much alike that their mothers might have had trouble telling them apart.
Note that I wrote “looked.” Past tense.
The last time Khadijah’s mother saw her, the beauty blogger and influencer’s face was beaten and stabbed so brutally that the woman was unrecognizable.
She’d been stabbed more than fifty times, according to the police.
Now, Sharaban and her boyfriend, Sheqir K., face trial for Khadidja’s murder.
Prosecutors will argue that the couple -- Sharaban and Sheqir -- surfed Instagram until they found someone who looked just like Sharaban, a doppelgänger, then set about luring her into a trap.
Promising free beauty products that Khadidja could write about, Sharaban and Sheqir allegedly picked up their target in Sharaban’s Mercedes. They drove her to a forest where they stabbed her dozens of times, mutilated her face, and then left her in the backseat of the luxury auto parking the Mercedes out in the open.
Along with the corpse, Sharaban left her identification and took Khadidja’s.
Motive?
Prosecutors say Sharaban was having severe problems with her family and went looking for a doppelgänger. The plan was to kill the unfortunate look-a-like and then steal the dead woman’s identification and her life.
“It was an extraordinary case that required all the investigators’ skills,” Police spokesman Andreas Aichele told the German publication Bild.
“We don’t have a case like this every day, especially with such a spectacular twist.”
