3 P.M. Frantic 911 callers described the scene to dispatchers as Richard Ford forced his ex-wife Melissa Banda into a white Dodge SUV. The 40-year-old man wasn’t “helping” or “assisting” the 37-year-old woman. There was nothing chivalrous about what happened on North 7th Street in McAllen, Texas.
McAllen police officers responded immediately, but were too late. They did however come up with a license plate number for the Dodge. It was a rental truck.
This case is especially troubling because Melissa sought a personal protection order against Richard on June 30. She told police Richard had called her that morning. She answered, but he wouldn’t say a word. It scared the heck out of the blonde, 5-foot 6-inch tall woman who weighed about 128 pounds. She convinced authorities to grant the warrant.
8:07 P.M. More than four hours had elapsed by the time officers got the plate number. The search was on. There was not a minute to waste, as an all-points-bulletin went out describing the vehicle, Richard Ford, and Melissa Banda.
9:31 P.M. McAllen dispatch receives a tip. Someone’s spotted the white Dodge SUV in a parking lot next to the McAllen Airport. Officers respond. No sign of the truck.
9:32 P.M. One minute later, police officers in South Padre Island find the Dodge. It’s on Beach Access 5. Officers immediately surround the vehicle. Inside, they find Richard. But there’s no sign of Melissa.

The investigation continues.
Bloody Kansas City Weekend
Quinton Lucas, the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri said he was devastated by the news that six people were killed by homicides in his city August 8-9. The blood-soaked 26 hours began with an accidental shooting, included a shooting related to domestic violence, arguments settled by gunshots, and finally, a double-homicide.
“I never sleep through the night generally anyway; weekends like that make it even tougher,” Lucas said.
The last body that fell marked the 127th homicide of the year in KC, Missouri.
