'Lord Help This Country,' A Shocking True Crime Story

Just after 9 a.m., two days before Christmas, a Choctaw County, Oklahoma, sheriff’s deputy and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper came upon an overturned vehicle, a rollover wreck, “north of Sawyer, up 147 and back east on 2000 Road, Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park wrote on Facebook.

No one was in the vehicle. Odd.

The deputy and the trooper got the vehicle owner’s name from the state DMV and noticed the owner’s home address was nearby. Walking up a short road that led to the home, they saw smoke coming from the house. Could there be a connection?

They decided to investigate.

The law enforcement officers rang the doorbell, banged on the house’s front door, and tapped on all the ground floor windows. Nothing. No response. The place was quiet.

Deciding the situation was at the very least suspicious, the trooper and the deputy decided to go inside. There, they discovered the owner of the home and the vehicle, Curtis Lee Martin, dead.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was contacted and dispatched a team to investigate what seemed to be a homicide.

The OSBI team discovered two people who lived in the home were missing; Martin’s wife, 47-year-old Sherrie Pyron, and the couple’s 17-year-old daughter.

Searching the surrounding property, OSBI agents found Sherrie Pyron, as dead as her husband, buried in a shallow grave.

Christmas Eve morning, investigators arrested the couple’s daughter and a 15-year-old boy after a short foot chase. They also arrested an 18-year-old man, Chad Jon Dale Voyles.

As of this writing, Voyles faces two counts of murder in the first degree while the teenagers are being held in juvenile detention facilities.

Indeed a shocking true crime story. It prompted Sheriff Terry Park to conclude his press release announcing the arrests by writing, “Lord help this county we live in.”
