Detroit: Woman Killed, Tossed into Dumpster Like Throwing Away Garbage
A registered sex offender, also convicted of car theft, weapons charges, and armed robbery, is accused of killing a 27-year-old Detroit, Michigan woman and tossing her body into a dumpster.
Elizabeth Candice Nichole Laird, was going to nursing school. Her corpse only discovered after someone told police he saw blood in an elevator of a neighborhood apartment building.
Three days later, James Quill Cockerham was arrested.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig called Cockerham, "a career criminal, and a violent, predatory cowardly suspect," during a press conference called to announce the arrest.
"She told me she was going to make something of herself," a family friend, Michael Hines, told Fox-2 TV in Detroit.
"She was a great young lady, and I loved her," he added.
"You shouldn't kill no one like that -- like throwing away garbage."
The Wayne County Medical Examiner says the official cause of death is compressive asphyxia. That's what a medical professional who makes a living studying death would call it.
You and I would just say this violent, predatory, coward drove his knees into Elizabeth's chest and crushed her lungs.
"Looking at my baby in a casket," Elizabeth's mother said, "I think that's going to be the hardest thing in my life that I'll ever have to do."
Gambling. Guilt. Death.
A woman on the run.
Her husband's dead. Her doppelganger's murdered. Will federal agents be able stop this woman who's driven by her own demons before she kills again?
